About the Monument “The Great Foreboding of Ivo Andrić”
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Ivo Andrić’s unique intellectual and geopolitical testament, the Monument “Great Foreboding of Ivo Andrić” has been erected in Zagreb through a private arrangement.
On the 50th anniversary of the poet’s death, the monument was unveiled to the public on March 13, 2025.
The monument is made of stone (dolit) and bronze. Its overall dimensions are: height 220 cm, width 90 cm, depth 90 cm, weight 3 t.
“Andrić’s Shield” on the monument holds not only artistic but also symbolic significance in the defense of human values of Western civilization, and the dates on the shield — June 12 and 13, 1974 — introduce us to the world of Andrić’s forebodings.
The initiator and author of the monument, Tihomir Majić, is a proponent of the geopolitical reinterpretation of Andrić’s life and work. More on this is available on YouTube under the title The Great Foreboding of Ivo Andrić.
How to reach the monument?
The monument is located in a quiet part of Zagreb and is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle, car, or public transport.
It is open for viewing 24/7, every day.
